Joan Schenk is a dairy market aficionado – she knows the ins and outs like no one else!
Joan manages market pricing updates for Foremost Farms’ cheese, butter and ingredients. Joan also works closely with the customer care team to resolve pricing challenges and helps coordinate credits and debits with the accounting department. But maybe the best part of the job is working with Foremost Farms’ beloved mascots Penny and Lane.

What is your favorite thing about working at Foremost Farms?
I work with so many amazing people! The Foremost Farms’ commercial team works closely together to resolve problems and find creative solutions to improve Foremost Farms’ systems every day.
You are a Foremost Farms 2023 Work with Integrity Circle of Excellence Award; what does this recognition mean to you?
It’s a team effort – I was just so honored to be nominated, but the support of my co-workers and leaders helped me achieve this award.
I always try to improve and make things better wherever I go, both in my personal and professional life. It meant a lot to know performing my job helped others so much. That’s the true reward – making a positive impact for others.
Time to introduce Penny and Lane, the beloved mascots of Foremost Farms.
Penny and Lane joined the company on its journey to the new headquarters in Middleton back in 2022. Penny and Lane were named after Penny Lane in Baraboo, from which the old headquarters originated.
Joan, you coordinate Penny and Lane’s holiday themes each month – how did you fall into this?
By happenstance, a casual chat about arts and culture with a coworker evolved into a discussion about decorating Penny and Lane for Memorial Day in 2023. The fun didn’t stop—it carried on from there. Fortunately, I have an abundance of decorations and anything I lack, I can create.
For Penny and Lane’s monthly designs, where do you find inspiration?
I play off holidays or activities that correspond with the season. Coworkers offer inspiration to keep it fresh!
Any standout favorites you’ve designed?
I love them all, but I think the New Year’s display was my top favorite. Most people don’t know that Penny & Lane are regular party animals! 😊
