Middleton, Wisc. (August 26, 2026) – Foremost Farms USA today announced plans to close its Marshfield, Wisc. cheese manufacturing facility in December 2026 and discontinue production of 40 lb. block cheese as part of a strategic realignment of its product portfolio to meet evolving market demands. Production is expected to continue throughout the transition period, with operations scheduled to conclude in December 2026.
The decision follows a comprehensive review of changing dairy market dynamics, including increased U.S. cheese production capacity and shifting consumer demand. As Foremost Farms continues to evaluate opportunities to create long-term value for its members, customers and the cooperative, the company is focusing resources on areas that best position the business for future growth and success.

The Marshfield facility, built in the 1950s, has a long history of producing award-winning cheeses. The planned closure will impact 68 employees who were informed of the decision on August 24. Foremost Farms is committed to supporting affected employees throughout the transition by providing access to resources, training, Human Resources support, and opportunities to apply for positions at other Foremost Farms facilities.
